An 18-month-old Colorado girl died after her mother’s boyfriend took her to the emergency room for a severe brain bleed and now police say the 26-year-old man has been charged with her murder.
Around 1:30 p.m. on July 2, the Greeley Police Department said they were contacted for a possible child abuse case, as FrontPageDetectives previously reported. Officers arrived at the hospital in Aurora to find an 18-month-old suffering from severe brain bleeding.
The child was brought to the hospital by the mother’s boyfriend, Andy Serrel Carter Jr., 26, who was arrested on July 8 for suspicion of child abuse resulting in death, police said.
Officials said the child was flown to the Children’s Hospital in Aurora for her injuries, but extensive lifesaving measures performed on her were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead around 2:30 p.m. on July 2.

After further investigation, authorities said the injuries were sustained at a residence where the child was in the sole care of Carter, who was not the father of the child, the Greeley Tribune reported.
Carter took the victim to the hospital in his vehicle and asked for the staff’s help in getting the child to the emergency room, police said. The girl’s mother and family members were contacted after the incident.
Carter was booked into the Weld County Jail on July 8 and has been held in jail since then, officials said.
On Aug. 11, authorities said formal charges were filed against Carter for first-degree murder. He is scheduled for a court hearing on Sept. 22.
