A 36-year-old Colorado woman was found at her home with gunshot wounds to her head and now charges have been filed against her husband, police say.
Around 7:45 p.m. on Oct. 9, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office said they responded to a call of a woman with gunshot wounds.
Police said 36-year-old Rebecca Tonkovich was taken to a hospital and put on life support, but she died several days later.
On the night of the shooting, officials said Tonkovich’s husband, 36-year-old Ryan Zahradka, was arrested.
While police have not released any details on what led to the shooting, detectives conducted interviews with witnesses, neighbors and family members and identified Zahradka as the suspect.
On Oct. 14, officers submitted several felony charges against Zahradka to the District Attorney’s Office, including a first-degree murder charge in the death of his wife.
Zahradka is currently being held in the Adams County Detention Facility while he awaits further court proceedings, police said.
