Teacher allegedly caught with hundreds of child porn images, including shots of his students in classrooms: Police
A tip about child pornography uploaded by an email address that was allegedly linked to a teacher in Connecticut uncovered hundreds of photos taken covertly of students and young children, authorities said.
On Oct. 18, Vernon police arrested Rockville High School social studies teacher and varsity golf coach Christian Stevenson, 52, in connection to the information provided to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by the Journal Inquirer, investigators conducting a digital forensic exam and scouring email addresses allegedly belonging to Stevenson found photos of female students that included shots taken in his classroom, the library, school hallways and at sporting events, as well as shots of children in stores, on the street, and in swimming pools.
According to the affidavit, 10 photos in the email were confirmed to be taken in 2019 of a then-15-year-old student. Two shots were taken from her Instagram account, and the other eight, the document states, Stevenson allegedly shot, including four from across a classroom that were aimed up the teenager’s skirt.
Another 35 photos were all snapped the same day in 2018 of a second girl, then 17, in Stevenson’s classroom, the affidavit states.
The affidavit claims 42 other images found in Stevenson’s alleged email were child pornography and showed both pre-pubescent and pubescent girls, some of which were engaged in sex acts, and some images determined to have originated in Moldova included a juvenile female.
On Sept. 15 — the same day police launched their investigation at the school, according to the Journal Inquirer — Stevenson was placed on administrative leave, but he then resigned.
Stevenson faces multiple charges, including importing child pornography, second-degree illegal possession of child pornography, eight counts of voyeurism, nine counts of disorderly conduct, four counts of voyeurism with a child under 16 years of age, and four counts of risk of injury to a minor.
He was being held at Hartford Correctional Center on a $75,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 5.
“The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff is our top priority,” School Superintendent Joseph Macary said in a statement. “Vernon public schools expects all staff to strictly adhere to the district’s high standards of professional conduct and code of ethics.”
