Louisiana man accused of backhanding newborn because ‘she was fussy and crying,’ police say
A Louisiana man was arrested after he allegedly admitted to backhanding a 5-week-old girl in the face, authorities said.
Shortly before 3 p.m. on March 18, medical staff at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital in Baton Rouge contacted local police about a baby who was admitted to the facility suffering a swollen left eye that was red and bruised.
Officers who noted there was also blood on the infant girl’s eyeball questioned 23-year-old Darryl Richardson in connection to the baby’s injuries.
According to a police report obtained by WAFB, Richardson, whose relationship to the baby is unclear, allegedly admitted to “intentionally striking [the baby] in the face with the back of his hand, after she was fussy and crying.”
