Virginia woman who ran a daycare for 20 years accused of assaulting an 8-month-old baby
A woman who ran a daycare in Virginia caused injuries to an 8-month-old child that put the infant in the hospital, police said.
On Jan. 20, police in Fairfax County, Virginia, responded to a hospital after the child had significant bruising.
Detectives learned the victim went to an at-home daycare the day before, according to Fairfax County police. The parents saw the injuries when they arrived to pick up the baby from the daycare.
The injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Hospital staff believed the injuries were the result of an assault and contacted Child Protectives Services, according to Fairfax police.
Investigators determined Shaista Laiq operated the daycare for more than 20 years. After several interviews, she was arrested, police said. The daycare is now in the process of being closed.
Anyone whose child attended the daycare and may have been a victim is asked to contact police at (703) 246-7800.
