Denver man arrested three times within 24 hours: 'We are seeing too many cases like this'
Police arrested a Colorado man three times within 24 hours after judges twice allowed him to go free on personal recognizance bonds.
On Oct. 25 just after 10 p.m., officers took Robert Avila into custody after he allegedly kicked down a man’s apartment door in Denver and entered the residence without permission. A judge then let Avila go on a personal recognizance bond, or a promise to appear in court for a scheduled appearance, KCNC-TV reported.
The following day, around 13 hours later, police responded to a downtown Denver Marriot, where employees reported Avila was incoherent and refused to leave the hotel. After Avila was arrested, a judge again freed him on a personal recongnizance bond.

Nine hours later, police were called to a woman’s apartment after Avila allegedly kicked in her door, forcing her to hide in the bathroom. While officers were placing Avila under arrest for the third time within 24 hours, he allegedly put up a fight and dragged one 30 feet down a hallway.
“It is my belief as a Denver police officer that if the defendant is offered bail, he will continue to victimize citizens in Denver,” an officer wrote in a probable cause statement after the third and final incident.
The judge set Avila’s bond at $10,000.
“We are seeing too many cases like this,” Denver Police Chief Paul Pazen said. “This is part and parcel to the challenge that we continue to see where individuals that are involved in multiple crimes are being released out onto our street without supervision, without adequate support.”
“That victim should never have been traumatized the way they were had our system been working the right way,” he added.
