A dispute over an Amazon package turned deadly on a Detroit street, police and prosecutors said.
Last week, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office announced Michael Craig Lackey, 59, was charged in connection to the death of Michael Elder, 61. The two were neighbors in Detroit.
Around 6:45 a.m. on Nov. 17, Detroit police responded to the area for a reported shooting. There, officers found Elder lying face down in the street.
He had been shot in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene, prosecutors said.
After the shooting, Lackey barricaded himself in his home, prosecutors said. He was taken into custody after a short standoff.
According to the Detroit News, Lackey spoke to police and detailed several issues. But he was most concerned about a dispute he had with Elder over an Amazon package delivered months ago.
Lackey was charged with premeditated first-degree murder, retaliating against a witness and two counts of felony firearm.
