Woman shot her boyfriend to death in front of two children then fled the home: report

A woman in Detroit is accused of shooting her boyfriend to death in front of their 10-year-old son and a baby, according to prosecutors and media reports.

On March 19, Detroit police responded to a home for a reported shooting, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Attorney’s Office. When officers arrived, they found Jamel Sandifier in the bathroom with gunshot wounds to his side and wrist.

He was taken to the hospital, where he later died, according to prosecutors.

Prosecutors said Sandifier had an argument with his girlfriend, Shanitra Newson, who then pulled out a gun and shot the victim before fleeing.

At the hospital, Sandifier told officials as he died that Newson had shot him, according to WDIV.

The couple’s 10-year-old was in a bathroom when police arrived at the home, according to WDIV. Newson’s 10-month-old baby also was inside the home.

Newson was charged this week with second-degree murder and one0count of felony firearm. Her bond was set at $250,000.
