A 25-year-old Illinois man was arrested in connection to a 2016 sexual assault investigation.
Police in Normal, Indiana, where the incident allegedly took place, announced the arrest of Jonathan Olivares-Venegas. He is charged with criminal sexual assault and home invasion.
According to police, the incident took place in May 2016 near East Vernon and Towanda Avenues, where police found evidence of an unidentified offender that was delivered to the Illinois State Police Crime Lab.
The DNA sample initially did not match anyone in the database. However, a DNA profile entered in March 2022 was a match.
That allowed police to identify the suspect as Olivares-Venegas. Investigators then got a search warrant to match his DNA up against that in the database, leading to his arrest.
The case was reviewed by the McLean County States Attorney’s Office, According to Central Illinois Proud.
