A Nebraska man robbed a vehicle at a park, but when the owner and owner’s dog confronted him, the suspect stabbed and kill the pup, police say.
Around 10 p.m. on Aug. 6, police said a 42-year-old woman went to Wilderness Park in Nebraska to let her dogs out.
While doing that, the woman saw a man get into her car and she went over to confront him, authorities said.
When she met the suspect, the woman’s dog attacked the man, who then pulled out a knife and proceeded to stab the dog several times, officials said.
The suspect got away, but not before stealing cash that he found inside the vehicle, authorities said.
Because of the severity of the injuries, the dog had to be euthanized after the attack, KOLN-TV reported.
The woman only suffered minor cuts from the struggle with the man, officials said.
Officials said they searched where the incident took place and looked for evidence. The suspect fled the area before police arrived and remains free.
The investigation continues as officers search for clues in the robbery and assault.
