A woman asked to care for her neighbor’s Great Danes was mauled and killed by them, according to authorities in central Pennsylvania.

The Perry County Coroner said Kristen Potter, 38, went with her young son to a home in Centre Township on March 16.

“As soon as he saw the dogs starting to attack his mother, he ran across the road to have his brother call 911," Robert Ressler told WGAL-TV.

When first responders arrived, two dogs were so aggressive that they couldn’t reach Potter. Animal control officers had to be called to give the animals tranquilizers. They eventually were put to sleep.

A third Great Dane found at the scene was not involved in the mauling.

Potter had a history of watching the dogs while the neighbor was away. But her father said the Great Danes bit her a few years ago, according to The Express.

Potter was married and a mother of three. Husband Jacob Presley Fickett told the Daily Voice that her middle child died in 2021 when a car struck him. Potter also lost her first husband in 2020.

“She wasn't that unhappy,” Fickett said. He added that the family was preparing to move from Pennsylvania to Florida.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating, but there was no word Tuesday of any charges being filed.
