Georgia Man Allegedly Murdered His Ex-Wife, Her Boyfriend During Custody Exchange Of Teenage Daughter: Police
A man in Georgia is accused of the double murder of his ex-wife and her boyfriend during a custody exchange of his teenage daughter.
Around 6:15 p.m. on Sept. 11, the victims brought the 15-year-old girl to the Covington home of Marquez Smith, 34, but she didn’t want to go inside, according to Sgt. Jack Redlinger of the Newton County Sheriff’s Office.
Smith then got into an argument with his ex-wife and her boyfriend, went into his home and returned with a gun and allegedly shot the couple, who were sitting in their vehicle, Redlinger said.
The couple managed to drive a short distance before the car crashed into mailbox and trash can, The Citizens reported.
The man died at the scene and Smith’s ex-wife was pronounced dead at an area hospital. The daughter she shared with Smith was not injured and is currently in the care of relatives.
Family told WAGA-TV that the victims’ 7-month-old child was in the vehicle at the time of the incident but also was not hurt in the attack.
Following the shooting, Smith allegedly fled in a pickup truck but later turned himself in to authorities at the Newton County Sheriff’s Office.
He faces multiple charges, including murder, aggravated assault, weapons possession, and cruelty to children.
