Double-homicide suspect in New York allegedly told authorities he ‘stabbed his family and did not know why’
A New York man allegedly called police to report he had stabbed his wife and two young sons, police said.
Shortly before 9:30 p.m. Dec, 1, incident reports obtained by WTEN state, Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office ordered Nelson D. Patino, 47, to leave his Duanesburg home and they took him into custody without incident, Albany station WTEN reported.
Deputies entered the family’s home and found Alexandra Bustamante Gomez, 37, conscious and lying in the foyer with multiple chest wounds. Her 5-year-old son, Jacob Patino, was located near the kitchen dead in a pool of blood. The child, the report states, suffered a stab wound to the chest, possibly with a kitchen-style knife found on the floor nearby.
A deputy also located an injured 2-year-old toddler, Anthony Patino, and took him out of the home. Paramedics determined the child had a puncture wound to his chest and stab wounds to the hands.
Gomez and her youngest son were both rushed to Albany Medical Center, where Gomez passed away. Anthony Patino is currently listed in stable condition.
Deputies located a second knife laying in a pool of blood in a second-floor bathroom.
According to an incident report, the suspect, Nelson Patino, “stated that he had stabbed his family and he did not know why.”
He was charged with two counts of second-degree murder, one count of attempted second-degree murder, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
