Georgia Man Arrested In Connection With Double Homicide Of His Mother, Infant Niece, Police Say
A grandmother and her 19-month-old infant granddaughter were murdered in their Georgia home, authorities said.
Around 2 p.m. on Oct. 10, police in Columbus responded to the residence about a shooting and found Ursula Dietz, 64, and the baby, Elenor Dietz, each suffering multiple gunshot wounds, WSB-TV reported.
Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene, and the coroner ruled their deaths homicides.
Authorities took Ursula Dietz’s son, Kevin Dietz, into custody in connection with the slayings of his mother and baby niece, according to the station.
“The motive for the homicides is still under investigation by the Columbus Police Department homicide division,” Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said.
Police have not released further details about the deadly shooting.
The killings reportedly brought to 36 the total number of people killed by gunfire this year in Columbus, a city with a population just under 200,000.
