Police in Maryland are investigating a double murder and suicide that occurred at a shopping center.

Area residents recalled officers, investigators and other law enforcement officials descended on the parking lot of a shopping center in Annapolis shortly after 2 p.m. on May 5.

“I work from home and suddenly I heard helicopters outside,” area resident Teresa Fields told WJZ-TV.

According to Anne Arundel County Police Department, a man shot another male as well as a female and then turned the gun on himself.

Eyewitness Ira Winkler told WJZ, “The shooting happened as the car was driving away in the parking lot — that's when the shooting started."

The shooter “emptied out a whole clip,” according to Winkler.

The alleged assailant and the woman were killed in the lot, but the male shooting victim was able to drive to a nearby tackle shop and call police.

He was transported to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The investigation into the suspected double murder-suicide is ongoing.

“There's going to be a lot of questions about relationships and things like that that we do not have the answer to,” police spokesperson Jacklyn Davis said.
