Teenager accused of drive-by shooting that killed 6-year-old girl watching TV at her grandmother’s home
A Louisiana teenager is accused of fatally shooting a 6-year-old girl while she watched television, authorities said.
Police took Elijah Paul Carter, 18, into custody around 7:30 p.m. on March 23 and charged him with one count of second-degree murder in connection to the death of Draya Michelle Guillory in Lake Charles, KPLC-TV reported.
His bond was set at $2.5 million.
According to Lake Charles Police Department Major Kevin Kirkum, the victim was at her grandmother’s home on a couch on the evening of March 20 when Carter allegedly shot into the residence, and a bullet struck the child.
Police have not said who the intended target was in the shooting or why Carter allegedly opened fire on the home.
The evening prior to Carter becoming a murder suspect, he was taken into custody on a drug charge and released on $500 bond, police said.
