A 78-year-old Texas man was killed after a fight in a grocery store parking lot and now police say a 40-year-old suspect has been arrested.
Around 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 29, officers received a call regarding a fight in progress with a subject down in the parking lot of the Vista Quality Market, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office stated.
Officers from the Socorro Police Department arrived at the scene and found two men, one standing and one on the ground unresponsive with no signs of life, officials said.
An investigation began and determined the one man died as a result of a fight, police said.
The Major Crimes Unit for the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office took over the investigation and determined 78-year-old Rogelio Gonzalez died from injuries he suffered during a fight with 40-year-old Chauhtemoc Sanchez Espinoza, according to authorities.
Officials did not release any information on what caused the fight between the two men.
Espinoza was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility and charged with murder.
He is being held on a $1 million bond, officials said.
