Michigan 83-year-Old Suspect Accused of Fatally Shooting 64-Year-Old Man Nicknamed ‘June Bug’ in Neck
An elderly suspect in Michigan is accused of killing a man, authorities said.
Officers responded to reports of shots fired in Benton Township around 3 p.m. on May 26, WSJM reported.
About an hour later, police said they discovered the body of 64-year-old Robert Lee Jones. He had been fatally shot in the neck.
Investigators identified Julius Oats, 83, as a suspect in the case after speaking with witnesses, according to WSJM.
Oats was charged with open murder and other gun offenses and is due next in court on June 7, the publication reported.
The victim’s fiancée, Rosa Atterberry, told WSBT she called Jones “June Bug.”
“Saturday we was supposed to cook out here in his yard, and then again Monday. None of that happened because somebody chose to take his life,” Atterberry said.
She added: “June Bug was a quiet person, he didn't bother anybody the facts does not add up to anybody that knew June Bug That's all we want. closure and justice.”
