Ex-Boyfriend Of Woman Found Dead After She Was Forced Into Her SUV At Gunpoint Arrested In Mexico, Police Say
A man suspected of fatally shooting the mother of his three children in her vehicle in California was taken into custody after he fled to Mexico, authorities said.
Around 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 5, multiple agencies worked together to arrest Daniel Chacon, 30, in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico, in connection with the death of his ex-girlfriend, 38-year-old Maira Gutierrez, according to Pasadena police.
Two days earlier, multiple people phone police to report they witnessed Chacon outside his Pasadena home force Gutierrez into her SUV at gunpoint, police said.
The vehicle was located later the same evening with Gutierrez’s body inside. Police said she died from a gunshot wound.
Chacon currently is charged with kidnapping and is considered a person of interest in her shooting death, authorities said.
Records obtained by KTRK-TV allegedly show Chacon has a long history of domestic violence that includes assault and violating a protective order in connection with past relationships.
In one recent incident last month, Chacon allegedly dragged Guttierez around her apartment by the hair while he was at the residence to visit the 5-month-old daughter they share.
“Maira did not deserve this,” the victim’s ex-husband, Jimmy Puente, told KTRK-TV, noting Gutierrez was “a great, beautiful person.”
“She wanted to get away from him and he always threatened her to come back,” Andrea Gutierrez told the station about Chacon’s on-off two-year relationship with her sister. “So she would go back for her baby, and this time, it just didn't happen that way.”
