Police In North Carolina Arrest 2 Of 3 Suspects Accused Of Shooting Father, Son Returning Home From Waffle House
Two suspects are now under arrest in connection to a shooting that injured a father and killed his son in North Carolina, authorities announced.
The Hickory Police Department said they took Jakeis Harris, 18, into custody on Dec. 2 and charged him with murder and other crimes, Queen City News reported.
He was being held without bond at the Catawba County jail.
Police previously arrested another suspect, 24-year-old Trevin Ali Brown, for murder and attempted first-degree murder.
According to police, around 3 a.m. on Nov. 5, officers found Khalil Rhynhart, 20, shot dead in Hickory. The victim’s 42-year-old father, Eric Rhynhart, was also shot and taken to an area hospital, where he was later listed in stable condition.
An investigation determined the two shooting victims were in a car together when a suspect shot multiple rounds at the vehicle, which then went off the road.
A third suspect in the case, Jalen Tremaine Crowell, 30, remains at large.
Family told WSOC-TV the father and son were returning home after eating at a restaurant when they were shot.
“I want to know why you went after my nephew and brother,” James Turner said of the shooting. “They were doing nothing wrong. They were leaving the Waffle House minding their own business. Whoever did this is kind of a coward.”
