Massachusetts Man Used Fireplace Log To Beat His Mother To Death In Her Bedroom
A man in Massachusetts who used a fireplace log to beat his elderly mother to death over five years ago faces a sentence of life behind bars.
A jury recently found Danny Lopes Jr., 39, guilty of the first-degree murder of his 72-year-old mother, Julia Fernandes, at their home in West Bridgewater, the Plymouth District Attorney’s Office said in a statement.
On Aug. 27, 2017, police responding to a call from a concerned relative that evening found the victim dead in a bedroom on the second floor of the home she shared with her son, Fox News reported.
Investigators located the murder weapon, a log, in the basement.
Lopes was taken into custody in Providence, Rhode Island, one day after his mother’s slaying.
