An ex-boyfriend attacked and stabbed a 17-year-old high school softball star and her mother in Florida before slashing his own throat, according to authorities.
Around 4:30 p.m. on June 3, Madison Schemitz, her mother, Jackie Rogue, and a friend, Casey Estep, walked into Mr. Chubby’s Wings in Ponte Vedra Beach for lunch, First Coast News reported.
Madison’s ex-boyfriend, 18-year-old Spencer Pearson, was seated at a nearby table, so they attempted to avoid any interaction with him and left the restaurant, officials said.
However, police said, Pearson allegedly followed the trio outside, where he attacked Madison and started stabbing her in the arm. Her mother tried to intervene, which is when Pearson is accused of also stabbing her too before a bystander stepped in to help. The bystander was injured by Pearson, who then turned the knife on himself and cut his own throat, according to law enforcement officials.
Madison and Pearson used to date, but Madison broke up with the suspect in April. This incident took place after Pearson allegedly engaged in persistent harassment and stalking toward Madison, including threats of violence towards her, officials said.
Madison, along with her mother, the bystander and Pearson are all recovering in the hospital. Madison was paralyzed during the incident after her spinal cord was injured, First Coast News reported.
The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office said this was a “targeted attack by Pearson” and if he survives his “self-inflicted injuries, he will be charged with multiple felony charges.”
Madison’s sister, Tatiana Cruceta, told First Coast News that her sister, a star softball player at Ponte Vedra High School, is a “fighter” and she has been avoiding Pearson following the breakup.

Cruceta said, “There were some issues in the past after they’d broken up, where he was threatening her safety. My mother was looking to get a restraining order against him, so this was definitely premeditated."
She noted Madison has undergone several surgeries and her mother had surgery for a ruptured artery in her hand, but both are now in stable condition. The bystander is also in stable condition, according to authorities.
No updates were given on Pearson's status, but an arrest warrant was issued charging him with two counts of attempted murder and one count of aggravated assault, WJKT reported.
