A man in Florida is accused of abusing puppies and now faces criminal charges, according to a report.
“He’s killing the dogs,” a witness yelled as police arrived at the scene.
Justin Lancaster was charged with animal cruelty and resisting an officer without violence in connection to the incident in Aventura, Florida, according to WPLG.
A police officer pulled into a Walgreens on Aug. 20 after hearing dogs wailing, according to the report. An officer drove toward the sounds and a nearby CVS employee pointed the cop to the scene.
The officer spotted Lancaster sitting on the ground with his back turned, the report noted. It appeared Lancaster was trying to put something around the dog’s neck.
Witnesses said they saw Lancaster throwing and slamming the puppies in the shrubbery, according to WPLG.
An officer pulled his gun and told Lancaster to lay on his stomach. The suspect acknowledged the police but refused their commands, the report noted. He told police the puppies were his.
The officer put his gun away but punched the suspect when he stiffened his body and refused commands, according to WPLG.
A puppy ran off in the struggle but was found a short time later.
Both dogs were “visibly hungry, shaking and scared,” police said. Lancaster had tried to make a belt to put around the dogs’ necks, and it had a buckle with a string on it, according to WPLG.
