Woman charged in connection to the death of 14-week-old baby, police in Florida said
A woman faces a murder charge in connection to the death of a 14-week-old baby, police said.
This week, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office in Florida announced the arrest of Lily Scheip. She was charged with second-degree murder.
On Nov. 8, police responded to a home for a report of an infant unconscious and not breathing, according to the sheriff’s office. When they arrived, a neighbor — identified as Scheip — came out holding the baby.
The baby was taken to the hospital, despite no obvious signs of injury, according to the sheriff’s office.
The child died at the hospital on Nov. 10, the sheriff’s office noted. Scheip told police she was the only person caring for the infant.
Investigators determined the baby had two broken legs in September from a reported fall, according to the sheriff’s office. An autopsy also showed there was a skull fracture and two other impact injuries to the child’s head.
Scheip is being held in jail without bond.
