He Went Looking For His Girlfriend Armed With A Baseball Bat. Then He Used It On A Victim, Police Said.

A man went looking for his girlfriend at a home, there he got out of his car with a baseball bat and beat a man to death, police said.

Around 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 18, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office in Florida responded to a report of a man beaten with a bat.

When deputies arrived, they found 52-year-old Bryan Merriam on the ground with head trauma. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.

Investigators learned Ramon Hernandez, 50 went to Merriam’s home and got out of his rental vehicle with a baseball bat. Hernandez was looking for his girlfriend who he believed was hiding there, according to the sheriff’s office.

Hernandez hit Merriam in the back of the head with the bad. After the victim fell to the ground, Hernandez hit him several more times.

Deputies found Hernandez about an hour later. When he spoke to detectives, Hernandez admitted to hitting Merriam the first time out of self-defense. He said the other strikes were out of anger.

Hernandez was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
