A woman in Florida is accused of giving Fentanyl to a toddler via candy and now faces criminal charges, police said.
This week, deputies in Putnam County Sheriff’s Office in Florida arrested Jessica Martinez in connection to the case.
The investigation started when a 2-year-old child was taken to the hospital after the victim’s grandmother noticed the toddler becoming lethargic, according to the sheriff’s office. The child became lethargic after getting candy from Martinez.
Martinez had left the property and told the grandparents that her “hands were dirty in Fentanyl,” according to the sheriff.
The child was given Narcan and rebounded from the symptoms.
Martinez was later found at her home and arrested, authorities said. The suspect told deputies that her hands were covered in Fentanyl when she fed the victim candy.
Martinez was charged with child neglect and booked into jail.
