Man allegedly planned to meet an 11-year-old at a gas station for sex. He met the cops instead.
An 11-year-old told police that she met a man at a gas station and then had sex. When she planned to meet him again, this time, police were ready to pounce.
On March 22, the victim’s mother called the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in Florida after finding text messages between the victim and Jorge Moreno, 33, authorities said. The messages were sexual in nature.
Deputies spoke to the child, and she said she previously met Moreno at a gas station, left with him in a vehicle and then had sex with the adult, according to the sheriff’s office.
Moreno and the victim did not know each other before meeting at the gas station, according to the sheriff’s office.
The victim was planning to meet Moreno at the same gas station on March 22, but this time, detectives were waiting for the suspect.
When arrested, Moreno confessed to having sex with the victim, according to the sheriff’s office. Moreno was charged with sexual battery, unlawful use of a two-way communication device and several other charges.
"There are people out there who are predatory and seeking out minors for sex, but in Hillsborough County, if you're coming for our children, we're coming for you," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "I commend the parents of this juvenile victim for monitoring her child's cell phone and bringing this matter to us for investigation. This incident should serve as a reminder to all parents to keep an eye on their children's lives online and on their mobile devices."
