A 60-year-old man has been charged in connection to the murder of a person he knew from childhood.
John Patrick Guillebeau, 60, was arrested in Houston County, Alabama, and he is charged with first-degree premeditated murder, according to WEAR-TV.
On Nov. 14, the body of Victor Trial, 67, was found at his home at The Pearl of Navarre Beach, WEAR-TV reported.
Sheriff Bob Johnson says investigators identified Guillebeau as a suspect through surveillance video of the condo, according to WEAR-TV.
A neighbor told deputies he heard a gunshot from the room, WEAR-TV reported.
Deputies found Trial with a single gunshot wound to the left side of his lower back, according to WEAR-TV.
Police obtained surveillance video of Guillebeau allegedly entering the condo with a stack of papers just before the shooting, WEAR-TV reported. He then left a short time later in a different outfit.
According to the arrest report obtained by WEAR-TV, investigators found the stack of papers next to Trial’s body in his room.
“Further examination of that paperwork showed it was paperwork from ‘peoplefinders.com’ and was a background report on the victim,” the arrest warrant obtained by WEAR-TV states.
The sheriff’s office says Guillebeau grew up with Trial in the small Georgia town of Smyrna, according to WEAR-TV.
Sheriff Johnson alluded to a possible motive in the case.
“Apparently there was some incident in the past that occurred, and Mr. Guillebeau tracked down Mr. Trial,” Sheriff Johnson said, according to WEAR-TV.
Investigators captured the license plate number of Guillebeau’s truck through surveillance video, WEAR-TV reported.
Guillebeau was taken into custody last week without incident after being spotted in Alabama, according to WEAR-TV.
“We put out a BOLO to law enforcement agencies and we had information that he was possible in Alabama,” Sheriff Johnson said, according to WEAR-TV.
Guillebeau was booked into Santa Rosa County Jail this week after being extradited from Houston County Jail, WEAR-TV reported. He is being held without bond.
