Man crashed electric scooter into 77-year-old bicyclist, killing her, police said

A Florida man crashed his electric scooter head-on with an elderly bicyclist, killing the woman, police said. Now, the scooter driver has been charged with manslaughter.

Investigators say the crash happened around noon on Nov. 4 in St. Petersburg, Florida, according to Fox 13 News.

The crash happened on 18th Avenue near 66th Street North, where Alvera B. Minutello, 77, was pedaling her bicycle west, Fox 13 News reported.

At the same time, an electric scooter operated by Tyler Brady, 22, was heading east and crossing the intersection, according to Fox 13 News.

The scooter and bicycle collided head-on just east of the intersection, Fox 13 News reported. Minutello died from her injuries, while Brady was not injured.

According to investigators, Brady did not swerve out of Minutello’s way, despite the majority of the lane on 18th Avenue was open and unobstructed, Fox 13 News reported.

After Minutello’s death, police arrested Brady on a charge of manslaughter, according to Fox 13 News. Brady has been booked into the Pinellas County Jail.
