'Not completely coherent’ father allegedly doused son’s room with fuel, sprayed bleach in his face: Sheriff
A Florida father allegedly doused his sleeping 4-year-old boy’s bedroom in tiki torch fluid, sprayed him in the face with bleach and then took two other children, an 11-month-old infant and 2-year-old toddler, from their home and got behind the wheel drunk, authorities said.
On Sept. 11, the mother of the three children flagged down a Daytona Beach officer and shared a video that allegedly shows Mack Arline, 31, pouring the fluid around their Ormond Beach home and spraying the child with Clorox.
“The woman told the officer that Arline was heavily intoxicated and threatening to burn down the house and kill their children,” the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said.
In the video, “deputies watched Arline kick a plastic toy car into the 4-year-old as he slept, then spraying him and telling him to wake up while using profanity and a racial slur. After the toy car hit the child, he pulled a blanket over his head to cover his face,” according to the sheriff’s office.
“A second video showed Arline emptying the bottle of fuel on the bed, furniture and carpet of the master bedroom,” officials alleged.
Volusia County deputies went to the family’s home, where they found Arline behind the wheel of a car with the infant lying on his chest and the toddler in the front passenger seat. Both children, deputies said, were unrestrained as Arline backed out of the driveway.
Deputies said they detained Arline, “who smelled of alcohol and was not completely coherent,” and allegedly found a Grey Goose vodka bottle in the car as well as a plastic cup filled with a liquid that had the odor of alcohol. "Arline was intoxicated to the point that he had to be picked up and placed in a patrol car before he was transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail."
Arline faces charges of aggravated child abuse, child abuse, attempted arson, DUI, and driving with a suspended or revoked license. He also violated his probation on a previous charge of false imprisonment and was on inmate release status for fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office said.
