Man Accused Of Shooting Pup At Florida Dog Park, Now Banned For A Year
A man shot a pup at a Florida dog park and now faces animal cruelty charges, police said.
Around 5 p.m. on May 28, police in Naples, Florida, responded to a dog park for a reported shooting. Tyler Derek McCord, 53, told dispatchers that he shot a dog that was attacking his animal.
McCord said his German Shepherd was being attacked by a pit bull, according to police. He said before his dog was killed, he took his gun out and shot the pit bull.
But witnesses said McCord told the pit bull’s owner he would shoot his dog if it wasn’t separated from his German Shepherd, according to police. The two pups had been growling at each other.
The pit bull owner tried to separate his dog when McCord pulled out his gun and shot the animal, police said.
Officers checked McCord’s dog and it had no injuries.
The pit bull was taken to an animal hospital and is expected to survive the shooting, police said.
McCord was charged this week with aggravated animal cruelty and discharging a firearm in public. He has also been banned from the dog park for one year.
