Florida woman arrested after hitting and killing a pedestrian while drunk, police say

A woman was drunk behind the wheel in Florida last week and hit and killed a pedestrian. Days later, police in Broward County announced they arrested the suspect.

Around 10 p.m. on May 7, deputies responded to a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. 

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. After the crash, the vehicle fled the area, according to the Broward County Sheriff's Office.

Around 10:15 p.m. the same day, a vehicle crash was reported in Pompano Beach. The description of one of the vehicles matched the one from the fatal hit-and-run.

Deputies detained the driver and passenger after they tried to flee when police arrived, according to the sheriff's office.

Broward Sheriff’s Office’s DUI Task Force responded to the scene and conducted an investigation.

Corshana Hatter was arrested this week on charges of DUI. In addition, she has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death, failure to register a vehicle and no valid driver’s license in connection with the hit and run.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
