A man in Florida has been arrested after he allegedly attempted to kill his roommate for hurting his cat while the suspect wore a cat costume, according to authorities.

Around 5:45 p.m. on May 23, deputies forced entry into a home in Gainesville after a male victim called 911 to report his roommate, Omar Gutierrez, 32, stabbed him in the neck, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office said.

Once officers arrived at the scene, they noticed blood pouring from the victim’s neck. He was transported to the hospital for treatment, but no updates were given on his condition, according to WCJB-TV.

An arrest report states Gutierrez told his roommate he stabbed him because “it was instinctual,” WCJB reported.

Gutierrez accused his roommate of hurting his cat, but the roommate says that is not true, officials said.

Officers were able to locate Gutierrez at the scene, while wearing a cat costume, and he was arrested and charged with first-degree attempted murder, officials said.
