Florida Mother Armed With Knife Walks Into NICU, Abducts Newborn and Attacks Hospital Staff on Way Out: Police
July 23 2023, Published 10:12 a.m. ET
A new mother went into the NICU unit at a Florida hospital, took her three-day-old baby from a ventilator and then allegedly stabbed multiple hospital staff as she was trying to leave, law enforcement officials said.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, 31-year-old Kendra Greene exited the hospital with her newborn daughter, who was being treated for underdeveloped lungs. She was arrested and charged with five criminal offenses a short time later.
Around 10:30 p.m. on July 13, deputies responded to the hospital after reports came in of a stabbing. They learned medical staff tried to stop Greene from leaving after they heard a “code pink” announcement, which means a child abduction, authorities said.
During a “code pink,” protocol states staff must block the nearest entrances and exits to stop anyone from leaving the hospital.
Greene allegedly entered the NICU and “violently removed” her newborn’s breathing device, central line from her stomach and several other life-supporting devices, WPEC reported.
The first victim pleaded with Greene to stop, but Greene shoved the employee back while reportedly saying, “F*** you, b****,” according to WPEC.
Greene allegedly then ran towards an emergency room exit, carrying something close to her body in one arm and a large, serrated kitchen knife in the other hand, authorities said.
Another hospital employee tried speaking to Greene, but she slashed the employee’s right forearm, according to WPEC.

Another employee saw Greene leaving with the infant tucked underneath her shirt. She tried to stop Greene but was slashed on the right hand, officials said.
A fourth victim tried to get the baby from Greene but was knifed on the side of her neck, court documents claim.
According to PBSO, Greene dropped the baby off with family members and then fled. She crashed her vehicle and ran on foot, but was shortly apprehended.
The infant was taken back to Palms West Hospital in stable condition.

Greene was charged with neglect to a child with great bodily harm, two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, battery, and resisting an officer without violence, authorities said.
She is being held on a $302,000 bond.
Court records state Greene is a diagnosed schizophrenic, deteriorating rapidly, WPEC reported.
