Florida teen claims his mom’s boyfriend killed her, smiled, apologized and tried to shoot him dead: Cops
A Florida man is accused of murdering his girlfriend on her birthday before turning the gun on her teenage son and himself, authorities said.
On Jan. 9 shortly before 10 p.m., Miami-Dade police responded to an apartment in Hialeah Gardens, where they found Angela Rodriguez, 45, fatally shot in the neck, as well as her wounded boyfriend, Julio Espiritu, 51, and 14-year-old son, WFOR-TV reported.
Police arrested Espiritu in connection to the shootings and charged him with second-degree murder, and attempted second-degree murder.
According to the suspect’s arrest form, the son claimed to detectives he heard a loud noise and then saw his mother unresponsive in a chair near the dining room table.
The boy said Espiritu pointed a handgun at him, smiled, apologized and then shot him twice, striking him once in the shoulder, the form states.
The teenager said he heard two more shots and saw the suspect down on the ground, according to the arrest form.
Espiritu was booked into jail without bond after he was treated at Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.
Investigators have not disclosed a possible motive for the shootings.
