A road rage incident in Florida led to one man’s death and police say the suspect has been arrested and charged with murder.
On the evening of June 28, Yairo Oropeza, 23, was shot and killed in Lehigh Acres, Florida, in a road rage incident and another man was also injured in the shooting, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials said they spoke with the shooting's survivor and identified the suspect as Yusafali Gooding, 27, and he was driving a black Nissan Versa.
According to authorities, Gooding was arrested in Jacksonville, Flordia, on unrelated charges and was extradited back to Lee County to face the murder charges.
While in Jacksonville, police say Gooding tried to get rid of the gun used in the deadly shooting of Oropeza.
Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said in a press conference, “You cannot hide. No matter where in the county or state you flee to, we will hunt you down and put you in jail.”
While Yairo’s family has been waiting weeks for police to track down the suspect, they were in the courtroom for Gooding’s hearing, officials said.
His sister, Yanis Oropeza, told WINK News, “It was just really overwhelming for me to really process anything. Seeing him was hard.”
The arrest does not bring back Yanis’ brother, but she said it is a good step toward justice.
“We’re just going to get justice for Yayo. That’s it," she told the news station.
Officials said Gooding remains in custody at Lee County Jail without bond on the second-degree murder charge.
