A man had pursued a romantic relationship with a woman, but then police found her stabbed to death.
Now, the wannabe lover faces murder allegations.
Last week, police in North Port, Florida, arrested Michael Douglas on a premeditated murder charge, authorities announced.
On Sept. 26, police responded to a home and found a “gruesome scene.” The victim was found bound and stabbed multiple times. According to local media reports, the victim was stabbed 38 times.
Police said that Douglas had pursued a romantic relationship with the victim. The victim’s daughter told police that Douglas told the woman to end her current relationship, according to the North Port Daily Sun.
Douglas was considered a person of interest, but it took months of investigating to identify him as the suspected killer, police said.
"It is due to hard work and dedication from our agency, which will help our victim's family find some sort of justice for this senseless and heinous crime," said North Port Police Chief Todd Garrison.
