Ex-NBAer, College Basketball Star Shot And Killed At Florida Home, Reports Say
A college basketball star and former NBA player was shot and killed in a Florida home, police said.
Around 1:30 a.m. on May 9, deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in Florida responded to a home for a reported shooting, according to Fox35.
A man in his 30s was shot and taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the report.
The victim was later identified as Adreian Payne, who played basketball at Michigan State and was taken in the first round of the 2014 NBA draft. He was not on an NBA roster for the current season.
Lawrence Dority, 29, was detained at the scene. He was taken for questioning and later charged with first-degree murder. He is now being held in the Orange County jail.
Police have not said how the two men knew each other or released a possible motive in the shooting.
