An argument over snorkeling territory ended with one person hurt and two people facing charges, police said.
This week, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office in Florida announced it charged Paulo De Oliveira and Katia De Oliveira in connection to the case.
The incident was reported to deputies around 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 7. The victim’s family members were in a boat about 25 yards from shore when deputies arrived, according to the sheriff’s office.
A 36-year-old man was with them and bleeding profusely from the head.
The victim told deputies he was snorkeling close to a dock and got into an argument with the two suspects over his right to snorkel in the area, according to the sheriff’s office.
Both suspects hit the victim, one with a pole and the other with a fishing road, the victim claimed, according to the sheriff’s office.
Security footage in the area corroborated the victim’s story, deputies said.
Both suspects were charged with aggravated battery and battery. The victim was taken to the hospital.
