Teacher busted having sex with student as police arrive to arrest him for the relationship: report

A teacher in Florida was busted having sex with a student when cops arrived to arrest him for the relationship, according to a report.

Philip Velez was arrested this month by officers with the Hollywood Police Department, according to NBC Miami. He was charged with three counts of sexual battery on a minor and one count of authority figure engaging in sexual misconduct with a student.

Velez is a teacher and assistant basketball coach at Flanagan High School in Pembroke Pines, Florida, according to the report.

Velez and the student began texting after a fundraiser in November, according to an arrest report obtained by NBC Miami. He then met the victim several times outside of school.

In December, Velez invited the student to his home, and they started a sexual relationship, police said.

The two were having sex when police arrived at Velez’s home, the report noted. The victim said they had sex several times.

Velez told police that he considered the teen his girlfriend and he had feelings for her before they began having sex, according to the report. Velez also said he knew the victim’s age and the two had spoken about their relationship being inappropriate.
