Teacher Told A Student He Gave Her Good Grades For 'Nothing.' Years Later, He Allegedly Had Sex With Her In A Closet.
A teacher in Florida told a teen as a middle school student that he “gave her good grades for doing nothing,” and when she reached high school age he had a sexual relationship with the girl, according to a report.
Last week, police in Palm Beach County, Florida, arrested Daniel Norment, a math teacher at Independence Middle School, according to WFLX.
Norment was the victim’s teacher when she was in the 8th grade and told her “she was different and mature for her age” and he “gave her good grades for doing nothing,” according to an arrest report obtained by WFLX.
When the girl went to high school, she returned to Norment’s class to visit and hang out.
He started to get more affectionate and rubbed her back and kissed her on the cheek, according to the report. He then kissed her, and the student told police she thought his behavior was wrong but she liked her favorite teacher.
When the girl tuned 16, she visited the classroom and Norment started to touch her breasts and then had sex with her in a closet, according to the report. The victim is now 18 years old and reported the crimes years later because she said it continued to bother her.
School administrators told police that Norment had been reprimanded for previous incidents, including taking students to the closet to “counsel them.”
Norment was charged with unlawful sexual activity with a minor and se offense against a student by an authority figure.
