'I shot my boyfriend': Florida woman calls police to turn herself in for murder after shooting

A 23-year-old Florida woman called police to say, "I shot my boyfriend" moments after killing him.

The woman claimed the shooting was in self-defense, but police have charged her with murder.

Around 6 a.m. June 15, Miami Gardens police responded to a shooting and found Vershaud Walker, 25, in the driver’s seat of his Toyota Camry with a gunshot wound.

Walker was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

According to authorities, Dominique Lyles, 23, called 911 and told police she and Walker got into an argument and Walker tried to run her over.

During the call, Lyles told the officer, “I shot my boyfriend.”

Police said Lyles and Walker were dating for a year and had been living together for about a month.

According to officials, Lyles said she woke up around 4:30 or 5 a.m. and saw Walker was not home, which is when they got into a fight over the phone.

When Walker arrived home, Lyles said she grabbed his gun and went out to confront him, NBC Miami reported.

Officials said Lyles saw Walker’s car going towards her and she fired one shot at the car. Walker then crashed into a parked car. Lyles went to the car and when she opened the car door, she found Walker with a gunshot to the head, police said.

Authorities said Lyles left the gun in the car and went back inside the house to call police.

During the investigation, one of their neighbors told police they heard Lyles yell, “You think I’m playing with your ass.”

Lyles was charged with second-degree murder in connection to Walker's death and she was booked into jail. She is being held without bond, police said.
