Two bodies were found shot and floating in a Georgia lake, suspect charged with murder, police say
Two people were dumped in a Georgia lake after being shot and a suspect has been charged in connection to the murders, police announced.
On Aug. 10, sheriff’s deputies in Troup County, Georgia, responded to West Point Lake after a body was found floating in the lake. First responders recovered the victim and moved the person to the shore.
The victim was identified as Marcus Lee Caswell, 46, according to the sheriff’s office.
Investigators said Caswell had a single gunshot wound to the head.
The next day, deputies again responded to the same lake after a second body was found floating in the lake. That victim was identified as Travis Michael Lodato, 31. He had at least one gunshot wound, according to the sheriff’s office.
Investigators said it appeared both victims were put in the lake to try and hide or dispose of their bodies.
On Aug. 12, deputies arrested Joshua Nutt, 39, in connection to the deaths.
Deputies did not reveal how they tied Nutt to the crimes, a possible motive or if he knew the victims. The investigation into their murders is ongoing.
“My investigators have worked non-stop since they received this case on Monday and to have a suspect in custody in a matter of days speaks to their dedication to the job and I cannot thank them enough for their hard work” Sheriff James Woodruff said.
Nutt was charged with two counts of murder, two counts of robbery and one count of possession of a firearm during certain felonies.
