Man was being searched in connection to a murder allegedly ran from cops and jumped into a lake — despite being unable to swim
A man was traveling in a car with a murdered woman and when police went to arrest him, he jumped in a lake despite being unable to swim.
On March 23, police in Monroe County, Georgia, received a report that 21-year-old Toriyahna Proctor was missing. She was last seen with the father of her baby, 22-year-old Jadarius Watts.
The duo was traveling in a black Chevy Malibu owned by Watts, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
A few hours later, deputies found the car at a boat ramp and Watts was in the front seat, according to the sheriff’s office. He exited the vehicle and deputies began to search him. But Watts ran and jumped into the lake.
He couldn’t swim and deputies had to rescue him, according to the sheriff’s office.
Proctor was found dead in the car as well, according to the sheriff’s office. Investigators have not said how she died, but accused Watts of killing her.
Deputies charged watts with murder, aggravated assault, obstruction of law enforcement, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and kidnapping. He is being held in Monroe County jail.
