Registered sex offender tried to entice child when she got off a school bus, cops said. Until a parent stepped in.
A registered sex offender tried to entice a child getting off a school bus into having sex, police in Georgia said.
In February, a parent reported seeing 71-year-old William Howard approach her 11-year-daughter from his car when she got off the school bus, according to police in Roswell, Georgia.
The child said Howard offered to give her a ride in the neighborhood where they both lived, according to police. Howard and the child did not have a preexisting relationship.
The mom researched the state’s sex offender registry, found Howard and contacted police.
Howard is a registered sex offender after being convicted in Florida in 2001 for lewd or lascivious molestation of a victim 12-15 years old, according to Roswell police.
Investigators determined there were other incidents between Howard and the child, according to Roswell police.
Last week, police arrested Howard and he was charged with enticing a child for indecent purposes.
“The quick thinking and decisive action of this parent is a model for all of us, and demonstrates well the necessary partnership between our community and the police in protecting our most vulnerable population: our children”, said Police Chief James Conroy.
