An 80-year-old man is accused of killing his wife after 55 years of marriage, police said.
On July 1, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of Donald Staley in the case.
Around noon on June 30, deputies from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia were contacted by Staley, who said he shot his 79-year-old wife, Judith, and then was going to shoot himself.
Deputies went to his home and spoke to Staley outside the residence, according to the sheriff’s office. He listened to deputies, put down his gun and surrendered.
Police went inside the home and found the victim with a gunshot wound to the scene.
The victim was taken to the hospital and later died from her injuries, deputies said.
Staley now faces a murder charge, and police said the investigation is ongoing. No motive for the shooting has been released.
