A teenage boy in Georgia faces a murder charge after police say he murdered the father of a girl he met at a gathering.
Investigators say the shooting happened around 11 p.m. during a large gathering at an apartment complex in Athens, Georgia.
Lt. Shaun Barnett said there was a party taking place outside the apartments when “there was some sort of engagement between the suspect and the victim’s daughter.” The suspect is a 15-year-old boy.
Carlos Harper, 38, approached the suspect, Marquise Malcolm, police said. Barnet said both men lived in the apartment complex and an altercation between the men led to the shooting.
After the shooting, Malcom left the scene and hours later surrendered at the police station, according to Athens Banner-Herald.
Malcolm remains in custody and police said he was charged as an adult with felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a person under 18 and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
The investigation in the shooting continues and anyone with information is asked to contact Athens police at (762) 400-7361.
