Clayton County Sheriff Levon Allen said law enforcement officials launched an investigation after Hurt and the then-17-year-old son of the victim, Shawn Jackson, reported the man missing in July 2019.

According to Allen, an investigation determined Hurt caught Jackson cheating on her and she confronted him in front of the home of the woman he allegedly was seeing. The couple’s dispute dragged on for hours, including after they returned to the residence they shared.

The following morning, Allen said, Hurt woke up the son and claimed that the teenager’s father had left during the night.

Three weeks after the alleged incident, Jackson’s body was located in Jefferson County, Alabama, in a shallow grave. He had been shot three times in the head, and investigators believe he died while asleep.

According to Sheriff Allen, authorities alleged Shrron Stephan Hurt helped his sister bury Jackson’s body.

The sheriff’s office has also taken out charges on Hurt’s brother in connection with the case. He is already incarcerated in connection with unrelated crimes in West Virginia, Allen said.
