Health officials in Germany announced on social media that 8,600 doses were a potential saline solution instead of the coronavirus vaccine, according to Sven Ambrosy, the Friesland district administrator, who posted on Facebook.

“The most important thing for us is to inform these people, answer their questions and offer further vaccination,” AMbrosy said in a statement.

Health officials said the saline solution is not dangerous but that people would need an additional dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The solution was possibly given at vaccine sits between March 5 and April 20, health officials noted.

Officials said the nurse was able to switch the vaccine for the saline because she worked on the preparation of the shots at the vaccination sites, according to CNN.

Health experts said the nurse was motivated against the vaccine, according to CNN. The nurse is not cooperating with police, and there has been no word if she will face criminal charges.

Germany has had nearly 4 million COVID-19 cases and more than 91,000 deaths since the pandemic began.
