Texas Man Allegedly Executed Ex’s 9-Year-Old Daughter In ‘Senseless Act Of Domestic Violence': Officials
A Texas man allegedly shot the 9-year-old daughter of his ex-girlfriend in the head, killing the child, police said.
Shortly before 10 p.m. on June 13, Jeremiah Jones, 22, is accused of going into Brittany Sorrells' Houston apartment and shooting her after turning the gun on the woman’s 9-year-old daughter, Khylie Sorrells, and executing the child, police said, The Texan reported.
Jones’ ex survived the attack, but her daughter was pronounced dead from her wounds at a local hospital.
The mother’s other two girls, a 1-year-old and a 7-year-old who were in bed watching a movie with their mother and sister when the home invasion occurred, were not harmed, according to court records obtained by KPRC.
Following a manhunt, on June 14, Jones was arrested for the murder that was part of what Houston Police Chief Troy Finner called a “senseless act of domestic violence."
In addition to the capital murder count, Jones also faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was booked into the Harris County jail.
Houston police Lt J.P. Horelica said Jones may have shot the mother and child for “revenge” following the couple’s breakup two months prior to the incident.
At the time of the fatal shooting, the suspect was out on multiple bonds, including on charges of felon in possession of a firearm.
